Google is currently testing a new search feature on its Photos platform that allows users to search for images using specific, detailed phrases. This test is currently underway on the photos.google.com site and some users have received a pop-up message to try this more powerful search function.
This feature is designed to enable users to “search for more complex queries to help them find the photos and videos they’re looking for more easily”. This new search function will rank the results by relevance, making it easier for users to find the desired image or video. However, some industry watchers have criticized the current search function on Google Photos for not being able to deliver more results to a basic query such as “rainbow”
It is important to note that the testing of this new feature is only available to some users and is part of Google’s wider testing process that tries out new ideas with select groups before rolling them out widely.
