iOS 16 Introduces Location-Based Feature Restrictions: What You Need Know

Apple has introduced a new hidden system called “countryd” in iOS 16.2 that allows precise location-based restrictions on specific features. Current iOS feature restrictions are mostly tied to the device’s region using hard-coding techniques. However, countryd combines multiple data points such as GPS location, Wi-Fi router country code, and SIM card information to determine the user’s location. While the system is currently not in use, it has the potential to provide more granular location-based feature restrictions in the future.
